Scott Macintosh

Co-CEO and Co-Founder

Prior to founding Valterra Partners, Scott was one of the founding members of Macquarie Capital’s US Principal Transactions Group, investing Macquarie’s balance sheet capital into private equity investments. Scott serves on the Board of Directors of ColoHouse, Aero Aggregates of North America, Lord Hobo Brewing Company and Lumen Eight Media.

Scott received a Bachelor of Science in Anatomy and Histology and a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Sydney.

Drew Reid

Co-CEO and Co-Founder

Prior to Valterra, Drew was a senior member of  Macquarie Capital’s US Principal Transactions Group, responsible for investing Macquarie’s balance sheet capital into private investments. In this role, Drew executed and managed a number of investments in the media, infrastructure and transportation sectors, while also executing on strategic initiatives for Macquarie itself. Drew serves on the Board of Directors of ColoHouse, Lord Hobo Brewing Company and Lumen Eight Media.

Drew received his Bachelor of Commerce Degree with Honors from the Australian National University.

KEVIN REED

Managing Director

Prior to joining Valterra, Kevin worked at Wellspring Capital Management, a middle market private equity firm, where he focused on the industrial and consumer sectors. Prior to Wellspring, Kevin worked alongside the Valterra managing partners in Macquarie Capital’s US Principal Transactions Group where he invested in private equity and growth equity opportunities. Kevin serves on the Board of Directors of ColoHouse.

Kevin graduated from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Economics with concentrations in Finance and Accounting.

 
 
 

 
 
 

Finley Patterson

Vice President

Prior to joining Valterra, Finley worked at Cotton Creek Capital Management, a middle market private equity firm, where he focused on the industrial sector. Prior to Cotton Creek, Finley worked in the Global Energy group at UBS Investment Bank where he focused on mergers and acquisitions and capital markets transactions in the energy sector.

Finley graduated with honors from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a Specialization in Alternative Asset Management.

Britney Gilder

Chief Strategy Officer

Britney joined Valterra as its Chief Strategy Officer in August 2023. Prior to joining Valterra, Britney was a core component of leading the business development and operational leadership for a high-growth technology consulting firm, AIM Consulting. She started there in the company’s formative years and was in a leadership position throughout the organization’s acquisition by the Addison Group and a critical player in post-acquisition integration, operations, and expansion efforts as a Regional Vice President. Britney serves on the Board of Trustees for the University of Montana Foundation.

Britney received a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems from the University of Montana. While at the University of Montana, she also had an accomplished athletic career as a four-year athlete on the women’s basketball team for the Montana Lady Griz.

christina Miranda, CPA

Controller

Prior to joining Valterra, Christina worked as Assistant Controller at Peak Rock Capital, a middle market private investment firm. Prior to Peak Rock, Christina was Vice President of Fund Accounting at Pennybacker Capital.

Christina graduated with honors from Bentley University with both a Bachelor and Master of Accountancy. Additionally, she is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Massachusetts, Illinois and Texas.

 
 
 

 
 
 

Tara Horne

Chief Compliance Officer

Tara joined Valterra as Chief Compliance Officer in September 2023 where she is responsible for the supervision and oversight of Valterra’s regulatory compliance efforts. Tara works with outsourced compliance firm, DFP Partner, where she is a Director of IA and BD Compliance. She has served as a compliance professional in the financial services industry for nearly 14 years and holds the Series 7 and 24 licenses.

As a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Tara has executed AML testing for a variety of financial institutions, as well as consulted with financial institutions on the key principles of money laundering and how to effectively mitigate its associated risks. Tara also holds a designation as an Investment Adviser Certified Compliance Professional (IACCP); as such she has been a panel speaker at several industry conferences and desktop training seminars.

Tara graduated from California State University of Long Beach, CA with a BS in Business Marketing and Finance.

ROBERT BERTAGNA

Senior Advisor and Investment Committee Member

Bob is currently the CEO of Minerva Ventures LLC, which is his family office focusing on providing strategic advice and capital to start-ups and other high growth ventures.  Prior to establishing Minerva Ventures in 2021, Bob was an investment banker that advised and managed groups of bankers that advised CEOs, CFOs and Boards on the full range of value-enhancing corporate strategic transaction alternatives such as mergers, acquisitions, separations and recapitalizations. His advice included not only providing assessments of the most attractive value-enhancing alternatives, but also the full scope of advice on tactically executing and then negotiating strategic transactions to produce optimal results.  As an investment banker, Bob most recently was the Vice Chairman and Head of M&A at Macquarie Capital.  Bob also had senior level investment banking positions at Barclays and Lehman Brothers, and was a member of the Mergers & Acquisitions Groups at Credit Suisse and Goldman, Sachs & Co.

Bob is currently serving as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Union College.  Union College, founded in 1795 and located in Schenectady, NY, is a highly selective, private, residential, liberal arts college with engineering. 

Bob earned a BA, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Union College and earned and MBA from Harvard Business School.

 
 
 

 
 
 

Clint Lohman

Senior Advisor and Investment Committee Member

Clint has over 30 years of experience in both founding and operating enterprises across a range of industries that overlap with Valterra’s investment focus. Clint brings to Valterra a breadth and depth of operational and managerial expertise that has been integral to Valterra’s success in partnering with management teams to accelerate growth and manage risk.

Clint founded Lohman Games in 1982 and Rocky Mountain Gaming in 2000, both headquartered in Montana, and successfully sold the assets of these enterprises to Golden Entertainment, Inc (NASDAQ: GDEN) in 2016. Clint has also been extensively involved in investment opportunities focused on the Bakken region, including GRIT Energy Solutions / PropX (hydraulic fracturing proppant transportation solutions) and Bakken-related housing projects for employees. Clint serves on the Board of Directors of ColoHouse and Lumen Eight Media.

 
 
 

 
 
 

Jim Coughlin

Senior Advisor and Investment Committee Member

Jim has over 25 years of experience in the private equity and seniors housing sector, completing over $2bn in transaction. Throughout his career, Jim has built exceptional, long term relationships with capital partners, producing exemplary returns for this investment partners.

Jim co-founded The Northbridge Companies, New England’s preeminent senior housing business with Wendy Nowokunski, and has been instrumental in growing Northbridge from a single asset to a portfolio of 17 communities today. Prior to Northbridge, Jim was a partner at Newton Senior Living. As part of the senior management team, he was responsible for growing the organization from a single asset to a 27-community portfolio.

Jim regularly speaks on the senior housing industry, including at the MIT School of Real Estate and Argentum’s national conference.

Jim serves on the Board of Directors of Lord Hobo Brewing Company, Cartias Communities, an organization that develops and manages housing for the working poor, as well as serving on the board at Beth Israel Deconess – Needham and the MA – SALC Fund.

 
 
 

 
 
 

Wendy Nowokunski

Senior Advisor and Investment Committee Member

Wendy has over 25 years in the senior housing space across the development, acquisition and management of more than 50 senior housing projects. Throughout her career, Wendy has focused on building businesses through the optimization of business management processes, building and enhancing best-in-class management teams and creating value-added organizational structures. She has successfully turned around dozens of distressed assets.

Wendy co-founded The Northbridge Companies, New England’s preeminent senior housing business with Jim Coughlin, and has been instrumental in growing Northbridge from a single asset to a portfolio of 17 communities today. Prior to Northbridge, Wendy was a partner at Newton Senior Living. As part of the senior management team, she was responsible for growing the organization from a single asset to a 27-community portfolio. Wendy was also a founding partner at Benchmark Assisted Living, and was part of a team that built a 16-community portfolio through development and acquisition.

Wendy is active in the senior housing industry, as a former Board Member at MassALFA and through ASHA, NIC and the MIT Center for Real Estate Professional Development.

Wendy is a Co-Founder and member of the board of the One Angel Foundation, a non-profit focused on assisting children with access to water, housing, education and healthcare.
